Tell me about this enemy thing - what happens? What is the communication like at the moment?

About Me:
I am married with two teenage children, a daughter of 15 and a son of 13.
About my teenager:
My daughter is extremely intelligent, kind and funny but is easily hurt and doesn't show her real self to many. My son is compassionate, intelligent, observant and smiles a lot but does doubt himself.
The one question I would like to ask Sarah.
How to actually encourage teenagers to talk when they choose to see you as the enemy?
My biggest challenge.
Being the referee between the constant sparring between my daughter and my husband. And make no mistake, he goads her into a negative response, often when all appears to be going well!
